Google Maps in Cambodia is highly inaccurate.
We met quite a few people who were lost and struggling to navigate. Many of the places we put into maps would give non-sensical paths. But the answer is quite simple!
Whenever you're travelling somewhere without accurate road information, simply switch your maps into Satellite View. Make sure you download your map offline before leaving reception, and then check in with the satellite image to verify your location if you're unsure. In most areas, the blue dot of your navigation will show where you are to a sufficient degree of accuracy when using satellite mode and can help you check where you're going.
Below you can see how the map in Cambodia looks if you input the location on the standard map. By contrast, when using satellite view, you can clearly see the sand path needed to take to reach this location.
